Week 5 of 2024 Weekly Notes

I was supposed to write this yesterday and publish it, but I was playing around so it slipped to today...

Studies

Most of my time is still on the graduation project, moving forward step by step. When I need to fill in fundamentals I go find ebooks on zlib.

I applied to a few remote internships, hoping they work out, and shared the remote internship info with friends. The remote internship work is also related to my graduation project, so the urgent thing is still to finish the project well.

Social

This week I also got a new understanding of social life. I realized I used to be too closed-off, maybe like a lot of people in tech — thinking it's enough if your skills are good (though mine still aren't...), no need for a lot of useless socializing. But I've been realizing more and more how important cooperation and communication are. One person's strength is still too thin. And I can't keep myself closed; I have to open up. Also, I can't be afraid of being rejected.

I realized I've been failing at this social side of things. I couldn't sleep that night because of it, lying in bed thinking for a long time. Then start changing from now!

Life

Every few days I see my little niece and can feel her growing.

Reading

Finished the Elon Musk biography, started Ross's Corporate Finance. It's completely a textbook; some schools even seem to use it for grad-school exams, so I expect it'll take a long time. A friend who studies economics said it's relatively easy to follow.

Games

I've been playing LoL mobile on and off. The pre–Lunar New Year event rewards are pretty generous. Also I want to enjoy the game more without getting too addicted, so I'm trying support (I used to be ADC). Playing support feels like it doesn't even matter if I play random champions I can try different champions, and roam, unlike ADC where you only play a few champs and during lane you can basically only sit bot.
