Week 4 of 2024 Weekly Notes

A quiet week. Notes on what happened.

Graduation project

Still working on the graduation project, inching forward a little at a time. Basically every small step turns up a problem... When it's more or less done I might write a blog post about it in detail.

Along the way, because my fundamentals were thin, I also went and looked at some Docker and Kubernetes basics. Coming back to the project after that, some parts actually made sense. You can't half-understand things; that only wastes more time. I've paid for that a lot. At least I've finally taken the lesson.

Palworld

On a friend's recommendation I tried a very popular game called Palworld. It's really fun and really addictive. Hunting giant Pal eggs, abusing bugs to catch tower bosses, playing co-op with friends — in two or three days I played sixteen hours, and that's exactly why I stopped: too addictive, too much time. Even when I wasn't playing I was still thinking about whether to move the base, whether to catch a strong Pal. That would take a lot of time, so if I just don't play, the worry is gone.

Arch Linux

After some thought I still wanted to go back to Linux (the ideal is beautiful... not sure if bugs will scare me off again; last time that's what happened...), so I installed Arch again. I only started on Sunday, so for now it's just a simple setup.

The plan is to do Word and that kind of thing via TeamViewer on the lab's Windows Server. I connected briefly. Not sure if a long remote session will drop a lot (on Ubuntu it used to drop constantly...).

This time I need to read the docs more carefully than last time.

I wasted a bit too much time this week. Already adjusting my state.
