Week 46 of 2023 Weekly Notes

I'm writing this weekly note on Wednesday of week 47.

This week was mostly the thesis proposal. Building the platform on one side, reading papers and thinking about the proposal on the other. I wanted to use DeepL via a translation plugin, talked to my advisor about getting the plugin reimbursed, and he actually agreed. Really grateful — he's genuinely kind.

I signed up for PyCon 2023. This time probably not as a volunteer, but as someone there to learn.

A friend and I agreed to study MIT 6.824 together. The format is roughly: study together, then organize notes, and explain what we learned to the other person (Feynman technique). The first session went reasonably well. Planning to keep it up.

After a lot of hesitation, given that writing the proposal and similar office work will keep coming, I decided to switch the OS back to Windows. That ate most of Saturday. In the evening I also downloaded LoL and queued with my roommate.

This weekend was the LoL finals. WBG lost. I felt a bit down that day, but it's fine — they gave it their all.

After Saturday I spent a lot of time setting up environments. Monday afternoon I heard my maternal grandfather had passed away, bought a high-speed train ticket home. Only today do I feel a little less busy. Found a room, opened the laptop, catching up on last week's notes. After this I'll fill in some study notes, then slowly push the learning plan when I have time.

Next week's note will definitely be shorter, because it seems I won't get much done. See you next week @_@
